Artist Statement

Nature is secretive and forever changing to me as it captures my artistic soul.  Its turbulent clouds bellowing up when a storm begins to brew or the rustling wind sweeping across the grasslands. Patterns are created across the countryside beseeching me to look more intensely as the colors and light change the landscape before me. The movement and colors ignite my imagination and inspires me to capture it on the canvas!

Joseph Campbell said to” follow your bliss” and painting is this for me. I received my BFA and MFA from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. In graduate school I studied the post-impressionist and began to explore color and texture in my paintings.  Inspired by the post-impressionist I have expanded my palette to create a unique interpretive style of my own.

I have been awarded several artist residences and fellowships. In 2005, a fellowship for art teachers at Skidmore College Summer Six.  In 2006, I received the visual artist residency at the Julia and David White Artists’ Colony in Ciudad Colon, Costa Rica.  In 2008, 2011, the Anacapa Artist in Residency at Thacher School in Ojai, California. In 2009, I  was given an Artist in Residency (TICA) at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.  In 2005, I was selected as one of twelve in the nation for the  Art Teachers fellowship at Skidmore College.
